Office for Teaching, Learning and Assessment

2013 Fall Forum
In the first academic quarter of every year, TLA sponsors the Fall Forum on Teaching and Learning. Stephen Brookfield, a noted scholar in adult education, gave a keynote presentation on creative and critical thinking in 2013.
The Office for Teaching, Learning and Assessment (TLA) supports teaching and learning at DePaul by providing services, resources and events focused on best practices in teaching; disseminating research on learning in higher education; offering supplemental instruction in historically difficult courses; and supporting DePaul faculty and staff in assessing student learning.

TLA Services

  • Teaching Support

Faculty, teaching assistants, and instructional staff may request confidential, formative feedback on their teaching, including midterm student feedback sessions, teaching observations, and video recording consultations. Programs and departments may request customized workshops on learning and teaching related topics.

  • Assessment Support

Faculty and staff may request private consultations on issues related to planning, conducting, and/or reporting on assessment.  In addition to regularly scheduled assessment workshops, TLA also offers custom workshops to DePaul colleges, schools, and/or departments upon request.

  • Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental Instruction (SI) helps students complete historically difficult classes through peer-assisted study sessions. Faculty can expect SI Leaders to create an informal environment in their study sessions in which they help students review notes, discuss readings and practice study strategies.
