Assistant Director of ABCD Partnerships at the Steans Center



Kim Hopes is the Assistant Director of ABCD Partnerships at DePaul University’s Steans Center for Community-based Service Learning & Community Service Studies. Kim is the external point of contact for the Asset-Based Community Development Institute as well as the administrative liaison between the ABCD Institute, the Steans Center and the ABCD Faculty and Fellows. Kim began working with John McKnight in 2011 when he asked a neighbor if she knew anyone on his block who might have the gifts and skills to help him with PowerPoint projects and other tasks. One thing led to another and Kim became the Program Coordinator at the ABCD Institute and later the Assistant Director of ABCD Partnerships at DePaul University. Kim graduated from Colgate University in New York with a B.A. in English Literature and Columbia College in Chicago with a B.A. in Graphic Design. In a previous life, Kim has worked as a litigation paralegal, a graphic designer, a preschool teaching assistant, an art instructor and as a school and community volunteer extraordinaire. She and her husband live around the corner from John McKnight, have two grown children and a senior citizen cat.​​​
