Youth Karate Summer Mini-Camp
Youth ages 6-13
Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday; 3:30 - 6 pm
Session II: July 16 - August 24 (no classes week of August 13)
Each 5 week session fees: Members $625; Non-Members $750
The Summer Mini-Camp is a great way for your child to be introduced to the martial arts or to carry on their training. The Mini-Camp will incorporate a variety of activities, including martial arts such as karate and jui jitsu as well as other activities such as kickboxing. Let your child engage the mind as well as the body in a mini-camp that is sure to be a lot of fun!
Youth Karate Weekly Classes
Youth ages 6-13
Friday, 6:15 - 7:30 pm and Saturday, 11 am - noon
Monthly Fees: Members $95; Non-Members $125
Youth karate participants will learn:
- Stranger danger and bullying prevention
- Karate Basic Principles (respect, discipline, confidence, good character)
- The importance of healthy living
- Goal setting and the pursuit of achieving goals
- Emergency situation response and action
Filipino Martial Arts
Provided by Tandang Garimot
Tuesdays and Thursdays 8 - 9:30 pm
Monthly Fees: Members $95, Non-members $125
Filipino Martial Arts is known for stick fighting and also includes training on empty handed fighting, boxing, grappling, and healing (Hilot). FMA relies on speed and proper body mechanics, rather than strength and size. This system is perfect for those looking for self-defense and fitness while learning a new skill. CPR / AED Certification Classes
Become certified in American Heart Association Heartsaver Adult/Child/Infant CPR/AED. We offer certification classes for DePaul students, faculty, and staff ($22.50) and the community ($45). All classes are held at the Ray Meyer Fitness and Recreation Center.
Monday, July 23; 1:30-5:30 pm
Wednesday, August 8; 1:30-5:30 pm
City-Safe Self-Defense Workshops
Provided by IMPACT Chicago
Classes provide safety skill instruction
including awareness, basic verbal techniques and elementary physical
responses to unwanted verbal or physical confrontation. Additional classes may be
set up specific populations and student organization groups upon request.
All classes will be held at the Ray Meyer Fitness and Recreation
Center. Pre-Registration is suggested as we need at least 5 people in
the class for it to be held. Once we reach 5 people, we will take
walk-ins or later registrants up to 20 participants.
Fees: Students/Faculty/Staff - $10; Student Organizations - $100
Fall Quarter 2018 class dates will be posted in mid-late August.
