Martial Arts & Safety Classes

CPR / Self-Defense / Martial Arts (Karate and Filipino Martial Arts)

Register for all classes at the Membership Services desk, online, or through The Ray at DePaul app.

CPR / AED Certification Classes

We offer American Heart Association Heartsaver Adult/Child/Infant CPR/AED certification for DePaul students, faculty, and staff ($13.50) and the community ($45). All classes will be held at the Ray Meyer Fitness and Recreation Center. 

Fall Quarter Classes
  • Tuesday, October 10; 5- 9 pm
  • Sunday, October 22; 11 am - 3 pm
  • Monday, October 30; 5-9 pm
  • Sunday, November 5; 3-7 pm
  • Friday, November 10; 1-5 pm

City-Safe Self-Defense Workshops

Provided by IMPACT Chicago
Classes provide safety skill instruction including awareness, basic verbal techniques and elementary physical responses to unwanted verbal or physical confrontation. Additional classes may be set up specific populations and student organization groups upon request. All classes will be held at the Ray Meyer Fitness and Recreation Center

Fees: Students/Faculty/Staff - $10; Student Organizations - $100

Martial Arts Classes

Youth Karate

Provided by Impact Dojo
Monthly Fees: Members $95, Non-members $125
Youth ages 6-13
Friday, 6:15-7:30 pm and Saturday 11 am - noon
Classes are high energy and full of fun and excitement.  Students learn principles, history, and philosophy of Karate. Classes include physical activity and an education component.

Youth karate participants will learn:

  • Stranger danger and bullying prevention
  • Karate Basic Principles (respect, discipline, confidence, good character)
  • The importance of healthy living
  • Goal setting and the pursuit of achieving goals
  • Emergency situation response and action

Filipino Martial Arts

Provided by Tandang Garimot
Monthly Fees : Members $95, Non-members $125
Ages 18+
Tuesdays and Thursdays 8  - 9:30 pm

Filipino Martial Arts is known for stick fighting and also includes training on empty handed fighting, boxing, grappling, and healing (Hilot). FMA relies on speed and proper body mechanics, rather than strength and size.  This system is perfect for those looking for self-defense and fitness while learning a new skill.
