CPR / Self-Defense / Martial Arts (Karate and Filipino Martial Arts)

CPR / AED Certification Classes
We offer American Heart Association Heartsaver Adult/Child/Infant CPR/AED certification for DePaul students, faculty, and staff ($13.50) and the community ($45). All classes will be held at the Ray Meyer Fitness and Recreation Center.

Basic Self-Defense Classes
Provided by IMPACT Chicago
Classes provide safety skill instruction
including awareness, basic verbal techniques and elementary physical
responses to unwanted verbal or physical confrontation. Instruction is
focused and designed for female participation. Additional classes may be
set up for male participants and student organization groups upon request.

Martial Arts Classes

Monthly Fees: Members $95, Non-members $125
Youth ages 6-13
Friday, 6:15-7:15 pm and Saturday 11 am - noon
Classes are high energy and full of fun and excitement. Students
learn principles, history, and philosophy of Karate. Classes include
physical activity and an education component.
Youth karate participants will learn:
- Stranger danger and bullying prevention
- Karate Basic Principles (respect, discipline, confidence, good character)
- The importance of healthy living
- Goal setting and the pursuit of achieving goals
- Emergency situation response and action
Filipino Martial Arts

Monthly Fees : Members $95, Non-members $125
Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:30 - 10 pm
Filipino Martial Arts is known for stick fighting and also includes training on empty handed fighting, boxing, grappling, and healing (Hilot). FMA relies on speed and proper body mechanics, rather than strength and size. This system is perfect for those looking for self-defense and fitness while learning a new skill.
