CPR / Self-Defense / Martial Arts (Karate and Filipino Martial Arts)
Register for all classes at the Membership Services desk, online, or through The Ray at DePaul app.
CPR / AED Certification Classes
Become certified in American Heart Association Heartsaver Adult/Child/Infant CPR/AED. We offer certification classes for DePaul students, faculty, and staff ($22.50 for purchase of educational materials) and the community ($45). All classes are held at the Ray Meyer Fitness and Recreation Center.
Winter Quarter CPR/AED Classes
- Wednesday, February 20; 5-9 pm
- Friday, March 8; 1-5 pm
City Safe Self Defense Classes
Provided by IMPACT Chicago
Classes provide safety skill instruction including awareness, basic verbal techniques and elementary physical responses to unwanted verbal or physical confrontation. Additional classes may be set up for specific populations and student organization/campus groups upon request.
All classes will be held at the Ray Meyer Fitness and Recreation Center. Pre-Registration is suggested as we need at least 5 people in the class for it to be held. Once we reach 5 people, we will take walk-ins or later registrants up to 20 participants.

Tuesday, February 26; 5-6:30pm; DePaul affiliates: $10; Community $20
Held in The Ray, Room 135; Open to ALL including Community Members
Youth Ages 6 - 13; Monthly Fees: Members $95; Non-Members $125; Classes Held: Friday 5:15 - 6 pm and 6:15 -7:30 pm; Saturday 10 - 11 am and 11 am - Noon.
Youth karate participants will learn:
- Stranger danger and bullying prevention
- Karate Basic Principles (respect, discipline, confidence, good character)
- The importance of healthy living
- Goal setting and the pursuit of achieving goals
- Emergency situation response and action
Filipino Martial Arts

Tuesdays and Thursdays 8 - 9:30 pm
Monthly Fees: Members $95, Non-members $125
Filipino Martial Arts is known for stick fighting and also includes training on empty handed fighting, boxing, grappling, and healing (Hilot). FMA relies on speed and proper body mechanics, rather than strength and size. This system is perfect for those looking for self-defense and fitness while learning a new skill.
