Yoga & Pilates Classes

At The Ray, we offer several levels of yoga, including Group Fitness daily instruction (free with your membership) and advanced specialty classes (descriptions below). Register for yoga specialty programs and Pilates classes at the Membership Services desk, online or through The Ray at DePaul app! Pilates Reformer and Chair

Intensify your Pilates routine by incorporating apparatus equipment! The Reformer, a spring-loaded resistance machine, is one of the low-impact and effective ways to tone muscle, strengthen joints and realign the body. Experience in Mat Pilates classes recommended (try them on the group fitness schedule!) for Beginning and All Level classes.

Pilates Reformer Policies

Set up / Take down


All participants are expected to:

  • Arrive 5-10 minutes prior to the start of class for set-up and sanitize your equipment. This is to help make sure the class will start promptly at its’ designated time.
  • At the end of class, sanitize, disas​semble and put all equipment away

Attendance​

  • Notify your instructor and Stephanie Punda  in advance of dates you will be absent from class. All absences will be accommodated, if possible.
  • Make-up classes require prior instructor approval and must be done within the session the participant has registered for. 
  • After your instructor is notified, fill out the make-up form to be contacted with the date to attend another class. 

Dress                ​

  • Dress for movement
  • Preferred – Tight fitting
  • Please wear spandex under baggy gym shorts
  • Pilates is traditionally practiced in bare feet or socks

Programming/Class Content

  • Be open with your instructor about any previous or current medical/injury history so appropriate modifications and variations can be offered.​ 
  • If interested in a more customized Pilates experience, invest in private or duet sessions. 


Class Descriptions

Beginning Reformer​

Our certified instructors will teach you the basics of using the Pilates Reformer and chair. The equipment will help stretch and strengthen your body, with extra emphasis on your core. This class is perfect for beginners and anyone looking to refine their basic Pilates skills. (Prerequisite for Intermediate Reformer)

Beginning/Intermediate

This class will focus on Pilates essentials while appropriately progressing to variations to intensify and compliment your exercise regimen to increase your body's strength, flexibility, stamina and awareness of powerful postural muscular techniques with the Pilates Reformer, Mat and other equipment.  It is recommended participants recently complete at least one quarter of Beginner Reformer and have extensive mat class experience before taking this course.

Intermediate/Advanced

De-stress your mind and refine your muscles! Bring your Pilates practice to the next level by challenging your muscular strength, stability, stretch and endurance to improve posture, maintain balance, and help prevent injury. Utilizing the Pilates Reformer, Chair, and Mat, this class is will be taught at an intermediate level and flow progressively into advanced exercises. Participants should have recently completed at least one quarter of Pilates equipment classes at the intermediate level prior to taking this course. ​

Advanced

Using both Reformers and Chairs, advanced classes allow participants to maximize their core strength and stability. You'll challenge yourself with advanced moves and develop a deeper understanding. Participants should have at least two quarter of Pilates equipment classes to register.​​​

All Levels

All Levels reformer is appropriate for students who have an understanding of basic Pilates principles. The instructor will lead you through a series of different moves that will challenge your body and intensify your practice. The instructor will modify exercises for each participant.

These classes and workshops are ideal for anyone new to yoga or those wanting to expand their practice in a small group setting.


 

Class Descriptions

Mindful Vinyasa with Kali

This meditative form of yoga can be adapted to any level. Based on ashtanga yoga, the breath is synchronized with movement and postures to help build strength, open hips, shoulders and hamstrings, and realign and detoxify the body. In this progressive practice, each class builds off what we did the previous week. Expert adjustments insure correct alignment. Instructor Kali Om has been teaching yoga since 1998 and is certified at the highest (ERYT-500) level.

Faculty/Staff Yoga in St. Vincent's Circle ​NEW!

 On Wednesday, July 11; embrace the experience. Join us in St. Vincent's Circle and allow the outdoors to help intensify your yoga experience. Let this class help you focus on awareness and breathing deeply, while embracing your surroundings.  FREE! Open to all DePaul Faculty and Staff. Limited mat​s will be provided.

Private Pilates

Private Pilates is ideal for those looking for more one-on-one attention for their Pilates training, or even as an alternative to personal training. Instructors may utilize popular equipment such as Pilates reformers and Peak MVE chairs during sessions, which use pulleys and springs rather than body weight to create long, lean muscles.

About Our Instructors

All of our instructors hold a minimum 200-hour certification, and each instructor has a deep understanding of body movement, alignment, and anatomy. Instructors have backgrounds ranging from dance to fitness and have various areas of specialty, including post-rehab or sport-specific training. They are also available to simply help improve general fitness or to get in shape for an event!
