Employment Positions

Entry-level positions, swim instructors, and lifeguards are typically hired every quarter. Mid and Upper-Level Student positions are typically internal hires and promotional level opportunities. Entry Level Student Positions

  • Check IDs and enforce entrance policies
  • Provide accurate information about programs, services and facility usage
  • Coordinate laundry management procedures
  • Sell retail items
  • Manage racquetball court reservation system
  • Issue lockers, towels and sports equipment
  • Respond to all accidents and execute proper emergency procedures 
  • Educate and enforce all policies and procedures 
  • Ensure safe and proper use of all strength and conditioning equipment
  • Provide patrons with general orientation of strength and conditioning equipment 
  • Provide accurate information to patrons or direct them to Fitness and Wellness Services
  • Execute routine inspections and troubleshooting of equipment 
  • Clean and organize equipment on the fitness floor and studios
  • Officiate and keep score for various intramural sports 
  • General understanding of the intramural sports rules 
  • Participate in meetings/clinics, on-going training and evaluation process 
  • Assist with event set-up and take-down 
  • Complete game sheets and reports as necessary 
  • Assist with repairs of fitness equipment
  • Re-Key lockers as necessary
  • Assemble facility equipment when required
  • Help to maintain records of all fitness-related maintenance and repairs.
  • Inventory equipment and tools
  • Maintain and lubricate all fitness related equipment
  • Assist with preventative maintenance programs
  • Assist with the set-up of programming space
  • Supervise participants and facilities during open recreation, club sport practices, contests, tournaments and rental/special events
  • Serve as liaison between participants, club sport officers, building managers and the club sport office
  • Coordinate activities with facility and program staff
  • Assist with event management including set-up and take-down of equipment
  • Ensure safe playing environment
  • Respond to emergencies and accidents
  • Lead diverse groups through a series of planned initiatives
  • Lead diverse groups through discussion points analyzing the performance and group interactions
  • Set up and clean up activities for Team Challenge
  • Attend periodic training sessions each quarter

Mid and Upper Level Student Positions

  • Supervise the daily operation of the building
  • Manage and coordinate student employees
  • Execute emergency procedures
  • Enforce building policies
  • Resolve conflicts
  • Respond to accidents and treat for care
  • Sell facility memberships, locker rentals, and programs and services
  • Provide patrons and prospective members with accurate information about Campus Recreation and the Ray Meyer Fitness and Recreation Center
  • Maintain fiscal accountability for sales during shift

Experience/Certification Required Positions

  • Design promotional materials for all Campus Recreation departments and additional projects as needed. Materials may include, but are not limited to: multi-page booklets, flyers, posters, schedules, t-shirts, event logos, etc.
  • Collaborate with marketing team to develop a consistent design and branding image
  • Work with professional printers to produce 2-color output for brochures and t-shirts
  • Must be proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
  • Preference given to Graphic Design majors and proficent with MAC
  • Teach group fitness classes in a safe and effective manner
  • Must hold an active Group Fitness, Personal Training or specialty format certification from a nationally accredited organization (ex: American Council on Exercise)
  • This position is open to both student and non-student candidates. 

  • Design and implement safe and effective exercise programs with appropriate progressions
  • Help clients manage behavior change through goal setting, planning, and follow-up
  • Must have a health-related degree OR certification from one of the following organizations: American College of Sports Medicine, American Council on Exercise, National Academy of Sports Medicine, National Strength & Conditioning Association

  • Swim instructors teach private, semi-private and group lessons 
  • Must be able to teach all levels, from parent-tot to level 4 
  • Must have previous teaching experience 
  • Lifeguard certification required; WSI certification preferred
  • Lifeguard certification required
  • Insure the safety of patrons using the pool and pool area
  • Provide first aid in emergency situations
  • Maintain current certifications
  • Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings and in-service training
  • Enforce all rules and regulations
  • Clean pool areas
  • Maintain positive relations and rapport with members of the facility
