Male Initiative Project (MIP) Student Conference participantsThe 14th Annual Male Initiative Project (MIP) Student Conference will be held on Friday, February 1, 2019 on DePaul's Lincoln Park Campus. College Access office is honored to once again host this event, which was developed to promote and support leadership among male high school students of color.
The theme of the 2019 conference is #FriendsNotFollowers, unpacking the concept of friendship as an action. Students will move past surface-level definitions of friendship and pursue a deeper understanding of friendship as a set of specific behaviors that include advocacy, brotherhood, responsibility and ally-ship. Students will be challenged to apply their new definition of friendship as an act of doing to an advocacy project addressing a topic of their choosing within their community. Each participating school will have the opportunity to present their community project to other high school students in a workshop at the upcoming CPS Young Men of Color Summit (YMCS) taking place in March 2019.
There will be opportunities for high school students to tour the DePaul University campus and participate in social and recreational activities as well. MIP conference attendance is free; however, high schools will have to secure their own bus transportation.    
Breakfast and lunch will be provided.  Breakfast will begin at 8:45 am and our afternoon activities conclude at 3:30 pm. The conference will take place in the DePaul Student Center, 2250 N. Sheffield Ave.
Space is limited; registration is required and will open in December 2018. High schools may bring up to 20 young men, all grades are welcome. Photo waivers will be collected upon arrival. The deadline for registration is January 25, 2019.
