Today we are announcing that in light of the current public health emergency, which likely will continue in the foreseeable future, and our concern for the health of our students and others in our community, we will not be holding traditional in-person ceremonies this May and June. Instead, we are planning a series of virtual ceremonies and looking for other ways to honor all our graduates.
Our intent is to create the best commencement experience possible to recognize and celebrate our graduates. We have a team in place working on how we will reimagine this milestone in new and safe ways.
These extraordinary measures are being taken now to give our Class of 2020, and their families and friends, time to adjust their plans. We know this is disappointing news. Commencement and all the other activities that celebrate the achievement of a degree completion are among our most cherished traditions.
We know there are many questions attached to this decision, including regalia purchases and refunds. We will share details as quickly as they are available on the Commencement 2020 Updates website.
With the start of a Spring Quarter that promises to be like no other, let us continue to draw upon our resilience and so many other strengths remembering We Are DePaul.
