Spring Break in the West

Aggie at the Mountains
road trip

This spring break, my roommates and I headed out West for our first road trip. We rented a car in Phoenix and spent a week driving through Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado. Not having cars in Chicago meant we were all itching to get back behind the wheel and drive along the beautiful mountainous roads. Since we did not do a ton of planning beforehand, we were able to stop whenever we saw something interesting, and ended up taking a lot of hikes and roadside adventures we would not have otherwise.

Even though we planned a few big attractions like the Grand Canyon and the Four Corners, some of my favorite experiences were those that happened spontaneously like hiking down into a canyon overlooking Lake Powell in Utah as the sunset dipped over the lake. Living in Chicago has its perks, but it was extremely refreshing to be completely immersed in nature for a full week before jumping back into another quarter. Hopefully we will be making our trip out West an annual tradition!
