Piece of Cheesecake

cheesecakes

In my opinion, cheesecake is one of the most underrated deserts out there. Perhaps it’s the connotation that cheese cannot be dessert, but it’s actually made from cream cheese rather than your conventional cheddar. Although Cheesecake Factory is always a viable option to get good cheesecake, I stumbled upon two other solid alternatives.

Tous Les Jours

Located in Chinatown, Tous Les Jours is an artisan bakery that specializes in in French-Asian inspired baked goods such as breads, pastries, cakes, and beverages. My girlfriend and I split a slice of chocolate cake, strawberry cake, and of course a slice of cheesecake. I guess I am simple and conservative, because I am also interested in the plain vanilla cheesecake. Sure, key lime and Oreo are good too, but all the toppings can get in the way of judging my number one quality of a cheesecake — thickness. At Tous Les Jours, although the slices are small in size, they pack a lot of flavor. And yes, the cheesecake does meet my thickness standards.

Magnolia Bakery

Within Block 37, you can find this bakery tucked away in a corner in the mall. The first desert I was exposed to at Magnolia was its coveted chocolate-banana pudding. Although more of a thick whipped cream than a pudding, it does not lack any flavor at all. After the pudding, I eyed the cheesecake. Like Tous Les Jours, the serving size is on the small side considering the price. Straying away from the conventional triangular slice shape, each portion of cheesecake is presented in circular form like your own private small cheesecake. My first slice was a plain vanilla cheesecake, then expanding to the chocolate my next visit. Once again, the thickness meets standards as does the taste.
