My Favorite Movies

Last week, I discussed my all-time favorite books and why they are so special. Reading is the best! What is also the best, though, are movies. There are so many good ones out there. Even ones in the same genre can be vastly different. Personally, I am not a picky movie goer. I will watch almost anything. I do, however, have favorite movies and I have listed them below.

•  The Sound of Music. Who doesn’t know this movie about edelweiss, nuns, seven children, a widowed sea captain, and favorite things? Julie Andrews is the seriously the best and her voice will give you chills. I have grown up watching and loving this movie and know that I will someday show this timeless classic to my own children.

The hills are alive with the sound of music!
•  The Amazing Spider-Man. Between Toby McGuire and Andrew Garfield, I find Andrew Garfield to be the vastly superior Spider-Man. He’s funnier, a better actor, and his chemistry with Emma Stone is much better than McGuire’s with Kirsten Dunst. I am a big fan of superhero movies and Marvel, and even though Spider-Man is not part of the Avengers, I like him the best.

•  She’s the Man. You would think that Amanda Bynes cross-dressing as her brother to play soccer and befriending/crushing on Channing Tatum, her roommate, would make for a weird movie. And you would be right. However, it is a weird movie that is also funny, great, and whose cast includes David Cross. This is another movie that almost everyone has seen, but it’s still a great one nonetheless.

•  Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. "If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball." This is one of the more famous quotes from this crass, silly, hysterical movie that includes Ben Stiller in a unitard. My father first showed me this movie when I was far too young to watch it, but it has remained a staple in our family ever since.

I certainly have a few other favorites, including The Prince of Egypt, Juno, About Time, The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, and Les Miserables. I am in no way, shape, or form a movie critic or reviewer, so excuse the poor summaries. Anyway, go put in a good movie, pop some popcorn, and enjoy!
