Are you there, Internet? It’s me. Tyler. Tyler Esselman. I am a fourth year BFA Acting major in the Theatre School (TTS) here at DePaul. I hail from the suburbs of St. Louis, Missouri and am (much to the chagrin of many here on the North Side) a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan. In addition to my academic activities at the Theatre School (TTS), I also work in the admissions office of TTS. You’ll see me giving tours of our building and also running around on our audition days on campus. I live in an apartment off campus with two of my good buddies and our sweet little cat just north of Diversey. We are the masters of late night dining and Settlers of Catan. I heart these guys.
My interests outside my love of theatre are incredibly varied. In fact, I would feel silly putting down a full list here but I think I can come up with a few that are pretty representative of the whole bunch. I have been an avid reader ever since I finished my first book way back in the day entitled Trashy Town. Side note: It remains a heated debate between my sister and I as to who first read this book. She is insistent it was her but I too am quite confident it was me. Oh well. To be honest, I can’t really remember but I’ll stick to my guns. By the way, my sister is awesome. She’s a junior at the University of Missouri. I miss her lots. Back to the point, I will read just about anything you put in my hands but I am a huge fan of science fiction and fantasy. I went to all the midnight release parties for the Harry Potter books and movies. That includes camping out for 14 hours for the final movie. Would I do it again? Eh, probably not. Was it totally worth it and did I choke up a bit during the Snape flashback scene? Absolutely and who didn’t?
Speaking of movies, they are another immense passion of mine. I’m not super picky in terms of what I’ll watch. I like the big action movies and the little indie ones too. You should all check out the movie Moon with Sam Rockwell. It’s one of my favorites. Being able to see the huge variety of movies in theatres here in Chicago as well as rooting around in the many DVD stores has been one of my favorite parts of living in the city. I would live at the Music Box Theatre if I could. I’m only kind of kidding.
Well I hope this has given you a bit of an insight into what I’m like and I hope that you might come back soon and check out some of my posts. It should be quite a ride. Thanks for stopping by!
