Spring Break and Spring Plans

This past week was Spring Break for DePaul. Rather than lounge on a tropical beach on a private island or backpack through Europe with my buds, I decided to go home to Naperville where it snowed, rained, and remained in the 30s… Despite this somewhat depressing environment, it was so nice to be able to reconnect with family and friends while of course eating some home cooked meals. Some much-needed TLC from my mom and dad made me feel victorious after a long winter quarter.

Even more, I got to see some of my DePaul friends as we all met up in Naperville together for a day. We went out to lunch and then saw a movie and it was great fun! Oddly enough, the weirdest part of the day was when we drove to lunch together. Living in Chicago, we constantly rely on public transportation. That being said it felt weird to cart each other off to different destinations in our vehicles. No waiting for the Red line to finally show up or having to pull out our Ventra cards are the simple joys of life. (Additionally after all of us not driving for 10 weeks, I’m glad we made it in one piece; I guess it’s like riding a bike, you never forget.)

Although not doing anything too exciting over Spring Break, my friends and I did brainstorm a few things that we plan to do this spring quarter:

1. North Avenue Beach - To quote the ever-intelligent Nicki Minaj, “let’s go to the beach each, let’s go get a wave.” This quarter my friends are I are definitely going to North Avenue Beach when the weather warms up to soak up the rays and play some volleyball or Frisbee. http://www.cpdbeaches.com/beaches/north-avenue-beach/

 2. Lincoln Park Zoo - A short walk away from campus, I’m sure that the Lincoln Park Zoo will be much more enjoyable when the weather is nice enough to not wear four layers and two pairs of gloves. Plus more animals will be available to see! Not to mention, this zoo satisfies the freegan lifestyle (free admission!). http://www.lpzoo.org/

3. Michigan Avenue - Despite taking a huge shopping trip every quarter (I recognize I have a shopping problem…), I know that this one will be extra special! With new spring clothes hitting the stores, even window shopping will be enjoyable. http://www.themagnificentmile.com/

4. Baseball Game - With baseball season almost in full swing (pun completely intended), it will be fun to go yell some “swing batta batta” and “we want a pitcher” from our no doubt nosebleed seats (poor college kid, remember?) Regardless of where our tickets place us, nothing can beat the atmosphere of the ballpark! http://www.stubhub.com/mlb-tickets/

 5. Lincoln Park Conservatory - In the city it’s sometimes hard to find where the greenery and parks are. With the Lincoln Park Conservatory this task is a cinch! Plus free admission :) http://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/parks/lincoln-park-conservatory/

Certainly stay tuned for my adventures! Who knows where this quarter will take me!
