Read the March 18 update about Chicago opening vaccines to group 1c, including DePaul employees, on March 29.

Promising news shared this week by the state of Illinois and city of Chicago means greater numbers of the DePaul community will soon be eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. DePaul encourages all eligible faculty, staff and students to be vaccinated at their first opportunity. The vaccines are safe, and our best hope for ending the pandemic.

State of Illinois eligibility and access

  • On April 12, Illinois residents 16 and over (outside of Chicago) will be eligible to receive the vaccine.
  • All vaccinations are by appointment only.
  • Local public health departments receive vaccine from the state and manage availability of appointments for their own jurisdictions. If you will be eligible under the state's plan, check the website of your local public health department for information about making appointments.
  • You also can search for locations on the Illinois Department of Public Health website.
  • Illinois residents who don't have access to or need assistance navigating online services can call the toll-free IDPH hotline at (833) 621-1284 to book an appointment.

City of Chicago eligibility and access

  • Chicago residents are eligible for the vaccine on a separate distribution timeline.
  • DePaul faculty, staff and student employees who were not eligible in an earlier city phase will become eligible on March 29, when the city opens phase 1c.
  • Only Chicago residents in phase 1c are eligible to receive a vaccine at City of Chicago vaccination sites.
  • Non-Chicago residents who are eligible for the city's phase 1c should check with their healthcare provider.
  • All vaccinations are by appointment only. Please visit DePaul's COVID-19 Vaccine webpage for information on the different ways to make an appointment.
  • For DePaul employees living outside of Chicago: Keep in mind that people ages 16 and over become eligible to receive the vaccine on April 12 under the state of Illinois' plan.

City and state officials urge patience in seeking appointments, particularly after the next eligibility periods open. While supplies are expected to increase, the demand may make it difficult to find an appointment until May.

DePaul will continue to share more information as it becomes available.
