Join Inauguration Events in November


Inauguration 2022

We are excited to invite you to join your fellow Blue Demons for a week of Inauguration events in celebration of our DePaul community as Robert L. Manuel is installed as the university’s 13th president. The week of Nov. 7-13 is our time to come together to learn, reflect, discuss, and even party as a DePaul community.

A full slate of exciting events is planned. Many events feature special guests you won’t want to miss. Please RSVP and mark your calendars — we will see you there.

Details and registration information for several events are shared below. We also encourage you to visit the Inauguration website to learn about all the DePaul events occurring Nov. 7-13 where you can show support for our vibrant community. All events are open to the entire DePaul community unless otherwise noted.

Join us for a celebratory breakfast in honor of National First-Generation College Celebration Day. Featured guest speakers include staff member Donyiel Crocker, current student Julianna DeLeon and Gerald Beeson (BUS ’94), chair of DePaul’s Board of Trustees and chief operating officer of Citadel Investment Group.

Thursday, Nov. 10

A conversation and Q&A with TikTok historian Shermann “Dilla” Thomas

Chicago historian Dilla, as he is affectionately called, has become a Chicago social media sensation. His history videos on everything Chicago have been viewed over 8 million times, and he has amassed a following of 150,000 followers across all social media platforms. Through the power of storytelling, Dilla is helping to change the narrative locally and nationally about Chicago's value to the world. In this conversation, he will share some of his insights followed by an audience Q&A.

Wisdom and blessings: A multifaith celebration

All DePaul community members are invited to join “Wisdom and Blessings: A Multifaith Celebration” in honor of President Robert L. Manuel on the eve of his inauguration. There will be drumming, music, readings from various wisdom traditions, and an opportunity to come together to commemorate the beginning of Manuel’s tenure at DePaul.

Friday, Nov. 11

Veterans Day breakfast

Join us to honor student veterans at DePaul and remember the journeys of our veterans at this breakfast, where guest speakers will include Brandon Carroll (USMC), Larry Melton (Army), Liam Turman (Army) and DePaul’s new president, Robert L. Manuel.

Inauguration ceremony (hybrid event)
1 – 2 p.m.
Holtschneider Performance Center, 2330 N. Halsted St.
Our community will join together for the installation of Robert L. Manuel as the 13th president of DePaul. Efforts will be made to accommodate as many faculty, staff, and students as possible who entered the lottery for the in-person attendance. The event also will be livestreamed for the entire DePaul community in Chicago and around the world to view.

University celebration
2:30 – 4:30 p.m.
McGrath-Phillips Arena, 2323 N. Sheffield Ave.

Join fellow members of the DePaul community at McGrath-Phillips Arena for a festive afternoon of music, activities, classic Chicago foods and other tasty treats as we celebrate the inauguration of our 13th president.

Men’s basketball vs. Western Illinois

DePaul faculty, staff, alumni, and community members are invited to attend DePaul’s men’s basketball game at Wintrust Arena, where President Manuel will be recognized as part of the official inauguration events.
