Maria Toscano joined DePaul University’s Office of Public Relations and Communications as a video communications specialist in January 2012. In this position, Toscano produces videos about the DePaul community to reach external and internal audiences across a number of media platforms. She also works to promote the College of Computing and Digital Media.
Toscano has more than 20 years of experience covering news and pitching news stories. Before joining DePaul, Toscano worked at most local newsrooms in the city. She held various newsroom positions including assignment editor, writer, planning manager and producer at CBS2 Chicago/WBBM-TV, ABC7Chicago/WLS-TV, Chicago’s Very Own/WGN-TV and Fox News Chicago/WFLD-TV.
In addition, she worked in the public sector for almost a decade serving as media relations manager for Chicago’s public transit system and was tapped to work in the press office for former Mayor of Chicago Richard M. Daley.
Toscano graduated from Loyola University with a bachelor’s degree in communications and political science and is fluent in Spanish.
