CHICAGO -- On Thursday, Oct. 27, emergency services from both DePaul and the City of
Chicago responded to two separate student situations on campus: one in
McCabe Hall and the other in Ozanam Hall. Some residents were asked to
temporarily vacate the halls while the concerns were being addressed. There
was no threat to the community, but emergency personnel needed to reduce
the amount of people and congestion in the area. The students involved in
these situations are safe, and residents have been permitted to return to
their residential rooms.
An all-clear message was sent to the DePaul community at 4:36 p.m.
Recognizing that the process of taking care of these students affects
others in the DePaul community, leadership shared support resources with
students, faculty and staff via email.
At 1:12 p.m., DePaul alerted the community to an ongoing emergency
situation with the following DPU Alert: “Please be aware Chicago Police are
responding to an emergency situation at McCabe Hall on the Lincoln Park
Campus. While there is no threat to the DePaul community, please avoid the
area near Belden & Fremont St.”
At 3:54 p.m., DePaul sent an update to the community: “Please be advised
while the emergency situation at McCabe Hall is still ongoing, there is no
threat to the DePaul community. Continue to avoid the area near Belden
& Fremont St.”
Due to the situation, the DePaul women’s soccer match against St. John’s
was canceled. More information is available on the
DePaul Athletics website
