CHICAGO —
DePaul University Provost Salma Ghanem announced that Jennifer Mueller will serve as the dean of the College of Education effective August 1. An established leader in higher education who comes to us from St. Cloud State University, Mueller brings over 30 years of experience in the field of education.
As the dean of the College of Education and Learning Design at St. Cloud State University (SCSU), Mueller oversees five academic departments, 1,200 students, 12 master’s programs and graduate certificates and two doctoral programs. During her time as dean, she led the successful completion of state accreditation of the SCSU education unit, as well as all teacher and administrator preparation programs. She also established a designated school partnership agreement with St. Cloud area schools and drafted a five-year education unit strategic plan with a new mission and vision focused on education equity, student belonging and data-driven continuous improvement.
“Dr. Mueller’s passion for education and leadership experience have really shone through,” Ghanem said. “Her dedication to teaching combined with her extensive research and grant-writing experience will be of great benefit to the College of Education. I am happy to welcome her to the DePaul community.”
Mueller is committed to equity and community outreach and established the Future Teachers Academy, a partnership between SCSU and the St. Cloud School District, to recruit more students of color into education professions. She also serves on the board of directors for the Great River Children’s Museum and on the executive board for United Way Partners for Student Success, a program to engage, align and coordinate community resources to increase opportunities for youth.
“I am honored and humbled to join the DePaul community and the College of Education,” Mueller said. “I was drawn to the very clear commitment to prepare the highest quality education professionals who actively improve our education ecosystem, ameliorate disparities, improve outcomes and fulfill potential. DePaul's dedication to community empowerment, inclusion of multiple perspectives, and a focus on equity is key as we design toward a more just future.”
At DePaul, Mueller will lead and nurture colleagues in the effective implementation and assessment of the college’s strategic priorities. Future objectives include strengthening the college’s position as a leader, advocate and partner in shaping education policy. Mueller also intends to promote and advocate for scholarly activities and research to further enhance the college’s reputation and continue to build on its accomplishments.
The College of Education is currently led by Mojdeh Bayat, who has served as interim dean since December 2022.
“During her time as interim dean, Mojdeh has initiated multiple collaborations and initiatives with external partners and other colleges on campus,” Ghanem said. “She has been instrumental in guiding the college during this transition period and I am grateful for her leadership over the past several months.”
