CHICAGO — A prestigious lineup of movie directors and screenwriters will be at DePaul University during May as part of the Visiting Artists Series presented by the School of Cinematic Arts. Guests will include legendary screenwriter and director Paul Schrader, director Stacy Title, screenwriter Jonathan Penner, director Doug Sweetland and a panel of women working behind the scenes in film and television.
The Visiting Artists Series provides students and the public with opportunities to have direct and meaningful contact with established and emerging innovators and professionals in cinema. The spring 2017 series will feature four events from May 5 to May 26 at the College of Computing and Digital Media Theater, 247 S. State St., Lower Level Room 105, on DePaul’s Loop Campus. The Visiting Artists Series, which features movie screenings and discussion, is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. Events include:
“The Bye Bye Man” with Jonathan Penner and Stacy Title
May 5 at 5 p.m.
When three college friends stumble upon the horrific origins of the Bye Bye Man, they discover that there is only one way to avoid his curse: don’t think it, don’t say it. Once the Bye Bye Man gets inside your head, he takes control. A screening of “The Bye Bye Man” will be followed by a conversation with director Stacy Title and screenwriter Jonathan Penner.
“Storks” with Doug Sweetland
May 12 at 6 p.m.
Film screening of “Storks” and discussion with director Doug Sweetland, who has worked on animated films such as "The Incredibles," "Finding Nemo,” "Monsters Inc.” and “Toy Story.”
Focus On: Women Behind the Camera
May 19 at 5 p.m.
Panel discussion with women who work behind the scenes in film and television. This special event is co-sponsored by the student group The Film Fatales and Women in Film Chicago.
A Special Screening with Paul Schrader
May 26 at 5 p.m.
Legendary screenwriter and director Paul Schrader, whose credits include "Taxi Driver,” "Raging Bull,” "Mishima,” “American Gigolo,” “Mosquito Coast” and “Affliction,” will be at DePaul to close out the spring 2017 Visiting Artist Series. A film directed by Schrader will be screened, followed by a discussion.
