SharePoint Information Site > Web Parts > Slideshow

UPDATE: current web best practices indicate that rotating carousels like these (slideshows) are not optimal. We see very low user engagement with them, especially past the second slide. This website is a fun and interactive example of the issues with rotating carousels:

We recommend using a single 100%-width photo above the content on your page. You can use our panel objects or simply structure your content with calls-to-action instead of using a carousel to feature content.

Have a group of images from an event you’d like to share with the world? Social media is the perfect place for those. Uploading an images from an event to your unit’s official Facebook or Instagram and linking to the post or album is much more effective than hosting the images in a slideshow in SharePoint. You can also link to your social media accounts with our Social Media Accounts Web Part.

Slideshows offer a way to display large splash images, often accompanied by text and a call-to-action (link, button, etc.). There are several ways to use the slideshow: as a static image (sometimes referred to as a hero image), as a rotation of several images or a rotation of several images with text that can link to interior pages of a website.

This web part displays best in the Main Content area on home pages and on landing pages in the two-column layout. For a gallery of images (with or without captions) for a standard, three-column page, use the Gallery Web Part.

IMPORTANT: Editors must follow image best practices when using the Slideshow Web Part.

There are two ways to configure the Slideshow Web Part: Default Slideshow and Slideshow Content Right.
