Chicago Mosaics - Confronting Anti-Blackness in the Latinx Community
Join us on November 5 for the first event in our Chicago Mosaics Series. This quarter we welcome Carlos Flores for a conversation on Anti-Blackness in the Latinx Community. Flores is a community activist, author, photographer, and a proud Chicago resident.
This speaker series is a quarterly event where The Egan Office of Urban Education and Community Partnerships at DePaul University hosts conversations with community and movement builders, activists, and organizers in an effort to recognize the critical voices that give shape to the Chicago Mosaic. All events are free and open to the community.
In an effort to maintain online safety we are asking that you please fill out the form here and we will email you the link the week of the event. If you have any additional questions about the event please contact The Egan Office at eganoffice@depaul.edu
Racial Equity Graduate Research Fellowship - Apply by November 13
The Steans Center for Community-based Service Learning, in partnership with the Center for Black Diaspora, is currently seeking applications for our newly launched Racial Equity Graduate Research Fellowship. The Fellowship aims to support African American DePaul graduate students in conducting focused community-based research on efforts to promote racial equity in Chicago.
Service is a part of our mission here at DePaul. One way we make that known is through Collaboratory, an online platform that showcases our activities and service to communities. It's so important, it was mentioned in DePaul's Grounded in Mission Update.
If you'd like to learn more about Collaboratory, please reach out to Barbara Smith at bsmith@depaul.edu.
As we move back towards the cooler months and cases of Covid-19 are rising, we are reminded of the irreplaceable value of community--of neighbors caring for neighbors, of exercising our mutual giftedness, and everyday people taking the initiative to creatively solve problems without waiting for permission from outside authorities.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, ordinary people in communities have organized across the globe like never before to pool resources and co-create strong structures for mutual care. Local institutions have found creative ways to invest in and support community capacities.
The ABCD Institute hopes to nourish this groundswell with this list by welcoming everyone to help celebrate, collect and make visible such stories, tools and the growing evidence of the limitless capacity within communities and people everywhere.
If you are DePaul student, staff or faculty, join the Steans Center group on DeHub to tap into the latest events and activities from the Steans Center. We look forward to seeing you!
