Can I get email notifications whenever students post to a discussion?

Yes. To get email notifications about discussion activity, the subscription settings for the discussion forum will need to be changed. See Participating in Discussions for more information.

Can I set up a discussion topic that is only available to a small group of students?

Yes. First, groups of students will need to be created (see Groups Overview). Then, group-restricted discussion topics will need to be set up (see Setting up Group Discussions).
