DePaul University welcomes four new trustees

Distinguished leaders from pro sports, finance, theology and technology join Board of Trustees

CHICAGO — Four distinguished leaders from the fields of professional athletics, finance, theology and technology joined DePaul University’s Board of Trustees. The board elected David Booth, associate vice president of basketball operations for the National Basketball Association; Sister Barbara Reid, O.P., president of the Catholic Theological Union; Dr. Stephanie D. Shipp, global head of diversity, equity and inclusion for the biotech firm Cytiva; and Lucino Sotelo, executive vice president of Northern Trust.

“I’m excited for our newest trustees to share their experience and unique perspectives with our university,” DePaul President Robert L. Manuel says. “Their ability to connect DePaul to people, organizations and relevant conversations will extend our social network and elevate our university’s profile. I look forward to our work together.”

David Booth is associate vice president of Basketball Operations for the NBA. He played basketball for the Blue Demons from 1988-92 and is DePaul's second all-time leading scorer and a 2009 DePaul University Athletics Hall of Fame inductee. Following his time at DePaul, Booth played professionally in Europe, Asia and South America for 13 years. After his playing career Booth transitioned to the NBA and has held a variety of positions for teams and the NBA since 2005. In his current role as associate vice president, he is responsible for interfacing directly with teams and players regarding league programs, rules, new initiatives and competitive elements. His role is intended to further enhance and build upon the strong working relationship between NBA League Operations and its teams under the Respect for the Game umbrella, as well as more broadly on all game-focused topics.

Booth earned a bachelor’s degree in communication from DePaul.
 
Sister Barbara Reid, O.P., is a Dominican Sister of Grand Rapids, Michigan and is currently the first woman president of Catholic Theological Union. She has taught at CTU since 1988, served as vice president and academic dean from 2009-2018 and became president in 2021. Sister Barbara has also been actively involved in the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada and is a past president of the Catholic Biblical Association.

Sister Barbara is author of 12 books and numerous articles, most recently a two-volume commentary on the Gospel of Luke co-authored with Shelly Matthews. She is also the recipient of numerous honors and awards including an honorary doctorate from the University of Graz, Austria, induction into the Aquinas College Hall of Fame, and the Yves Congar Award for Theological Excellence from Barry University, among many others.

Sister Barbara holds a PhD in biblical studies from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Aquinas College.

Stephanie D. Shipp, DBA is the global head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Cytiva, a global biotechnology firm. Shipp is a seasoned corporate executive with more than 30 years of experience at top-tier companies like Apple, Dell Technologies and Salesforce. She has held roles spanning operations, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic planning. At Cytiva, Shipp is a global champion and thought leader on diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, and she leverages her business acumen across distinct functions to drive positive change and foster inclusive cultures across organizations and employee resource groups.

Shipp resides in the Austin, Texas area where she serves her community as an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and The Links Incorporated, an international, not-for-profit service corporation. 

She holds a doctorate in business administration from DePaul, a master’s degree in business and human resources development from the University of Texas at Austin and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science from Johnson C. Smith University.
 
Lucino Sotelo is an executive vice president and special advisor to the president of the Northern Trust Wealth Management business. Sotelo is an accomplished leader with expertise in marketing, digital, eCommerce, data and analytics to improve total customer experience and ensure the integrated commercial success of the organization.

Sotelo has committed himself to community and investing in organizations that help others achieve higher levels of success, with a purposeful focus on educational equality in all communities. He is currently a board member of Leadership of Greater Chicago, and previously served as a member of the Chicago Board of Education and as commissioner for the Public Building Commission and Chicago Planning Commission.

He is a two-time recipient of the HITEC 100 Award which recognizes the top 100 Hispanic leaders in technology in the U.S. Sotelo was also recognized as one of the country’s Top Latino Leaders by the National Diversity Council in 2018 and one of the Top Ten Líderes by Hispanic Executive Magazine in 2015. Sotelo lives in Chicago with his wife Maria and enjoys coaching his son’s baseball team and playing golf with his daughter.

Sotelo has an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and a bachelor’s in accounting from DePaul.​
