Confirmed case of COVID-19 at DePaul; some facilities closed—March 18, 2020

March 18, 2020

Late on Tuesday, March 17 DePaul received notification from a faculty member who works in 1150 W. Fullerton Ave. that they tested positive for COVID-19. The faculty member was last in the building briefly on Sunday, March 15 with a non-DePaul person who also has been confirmed to have COVID-19. For precautions and the safety of the community, the building at 1150 W. Fullerton Ave., including the Chicago Public Library branch and AMITA Sage Medical, will close today, March 18, to allow for cleaning. As noted in a previous message, Sage will reopen on Thursday, March 19. The university has started sanitizing and disinfecting immediately, and will follow up with public health officials to determine if any additional notifications of DePaul employees or students are needed based on contacts the faculty member may have had. The faculty member is following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and will self-quarantine for 14 days.

Lastly, we are aware of a notice that went out to residents of 1237 W. Fullerton/Ion about a reported case in that building. Please note that while 1237 W. Fullerton/Ion is not a DePaul University owned or operated building, we still want to be sure that DePaul students who live there feel supported. In lieu of contacting AMITA Sage Medical, which will be closed due to the COVID-19 case at 1150 W. Fullerton, please reach out to the Chicago Department of Public Health's call center at 312-746-4835 or coronavirus@chicago.gov with questions. Phone lines are currently staffed from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m, seven days a week. For medical advice, please contact your health care provider. Questions also may be directed to hpw@depaul.edu.
