November 12, 2020
Dear faculty, staff and students,
Earlier today, Mayor Lightfoot issued an
order, effective Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, advising Chicago residents “to stay at home in response to the rapid rise of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in the city…” In light of this order, I am writing to announce that as of Monday, Nov. 16:
- All current face-to-face classes will move online
- All fall final exams will move online
For many of you this change will be moot, as your classes and exams are already online. For those of you who have been participating in face-to-face classes, I am sorry for this quick shift. We knew when we began this academic year that the pandemic might cause sudden disruptions and that is exactly what we are now facing.
A university-wide message regarding access to campus buildings and computer labs will follow. Reservations for spaces in the library will be suspended. A message regarding availability of contactless pick-up services for library materials will follow from the library.
I urge you all to take care of yourselves, to continue with the work of the quarter, and to be kind to yourselves and each other as we make our way through this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Salma Ghanem
Interim Provost
