Pay for student workers, hourly employees extended to June 30

April 9, 2020

With the COVID-19 pandemic showing few signs of ending soon, DePaul will extend the pay guidelines that it shared with faculty, staff and student workers in March.

Staff who are classified as non-exempt, paid on an hourly basis, and whose work cannot be handled remotely first are being considered for alternative duties and tasks within their departments.

The university previously announced it would pay the difference between hours worked and employees' regularly scheduled hours through at least May 1. That date now is extended to June 30. As the date approaches, the university will re-evaluate the situation to determine how best to proceed.

“While DePaul is not in a financial position to continue this arrangement indefinitely, the university is doing what it can for employees during these unexpected circumstances," says Jeff Bethke, DePaul's executive vice president and chief financial officer.

For student workers whose work cannot be handled remotely, this extension will be through their agreed-upon term of employment for the position they are holding or June 30, whichever comes first.

“DePaul has been guided through these times by the promise to take care of our community as best we can," says DePaul President A. Gabriel Esteban, Ph.D. “This decision is a reflection of that."

Student workers also can seek other opportunities on the Campus Job Board website.

Employees should continue to reference the pay guidelines shared by Human Resources on March 16 for answers to payroll questions.
