Professional Communication (MA)

Designed for rising working professionals, the College of Communication's accelerated one-year program incorporates the social underpinnings of communication with courses such as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace and Professional Communication Law, Policy and Ethics.  

Participate in an online program with a mix of self-paced and real-time learning classes. You will take classes with a cohort, learning alongside and networking with fellow communication students from various professional backgrounds. Finish your degree by tackling a real-world workplace communication challenge that benefits an organization's stakeholders and builds your professional portfolio. 

This online program includes a combination of synchronous (live) instruction and discussion and asynchronous (on demand) coursework. The live classes will meet two evenings per week. You will complete the 12 required courses in the 46-credit-hour program in one year (four quarters).

How to Apply

Initiate the online graduate application at go.depaul.edu/apply.

Select Graduate/Degree and Non-Degree and follow the steps to create an account.

Select College of Communication.  Complete the Personal, Additional Personal Information and Education tabs.

Under the Program Selection tab:

  • Select your Admit Type. 
  • Under Partnership, select Yes.
  • Choose your employer or professional association. If you are employed by a member of the Bright Horizons/EdAssist Network, do not make a choice here--you will enter this on the Additional Information tab.  The application fee will be waived.
  • Under Program Selection, choose YES for the online program.
  • Under Select Program of Interest, select Professional Communication - MA (Fully Online)
  • Under anticipated entry term, select your intended start term. 
  • Explain how you heard about the program. 
  • Choose Continue.

Under the Additional Information tab, if your employer is a member of Bright Horizons/EdAssist, click Add New under Employer Name. This will open a pop-up box where you can select your employer from the Bright Horizons/EdAssist list. You also should check the Yes button next to "Is your employer part of the EdAssist network?"

If you do not see your employer, email gradcom@depaul.edu.

Submit your résumé in the online application or email it to gradcom@depaul.edu.

Submit Official Transcripts from all colleges and universities attended (international applicants will need to also submit official transcript evaluations and English Proficiency scores).
