Jessica Pamment

Senior Professional Lecturer, PhD

jpamment@depaul.edu

Dr. Pamment obtained her PhD in the field of cancer research at Dundee University, Scotland. She then went on to complete her postdoctoral studies at Harvard Medical School in the field of yeast genetics. Currently, Dr. Pamment is a senior lecturer at DePaul University, where she has been teaching full time for 13 years. Dr. Pamment teaches several science classes to both biology majors and non-majors, but she is particularly proud of the introductory biology class (BIO155) she developed for non-majors. Dr. Pamment is passionate about using community service as an active learning tool; she has successfully integrated a service-learning project into the BIO155 curriculum to increase both classroom engagement and civic engagement in the Chicago community. Taking BIO155 is no longer only about fulfilling a requirement, but also about the satisfaction students get when they have, at least in some way, fulfilled DePaul’s Vincentian mission. Academic service-learning benefits both the students and community partners, as they both learn and are shaped by this experience.
