Blake Wassell

Core Curriculum Academic Officer

blake.wassell@acu.edu.au

I am a New Testament scholar who works at Australian Catholic University. At ACU, I am responsible for coordination, learning and assessment design, and moderation as the Core Curriculum Academic Officer. I have worked on the topic of modern slavery with the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney. I also teach undergraduate and postgraduate units in biblical studies for the National School of Theology. My academic publications focus on critical issues in the Johannine literature – its anti-Jewishness, its overlaps with Josephus, its connections to the synoptics, and its relevance to Australia’s settler-colonial heritage in the British empire – in a monograph, a co-edited volume, multiple invited volume chapters, and peer-reviewed articles appearing in top-tier journals such as New Testament Studies, Journal of Biblical Literature, Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses, and Journal for the Study of Judaism. And after stints and presentations across Dunedin, Tübingen, North America, and Israel, I have a wide international network.
