Update on DePaul’s Art Collection

Dear Faculty,

I am pleased to share DePaul’s plans for providing you and your students with access to our permanent art collection. The university will maintain and steward the art collection as part of our academic and research offerings. The university is committed to upholding the Association of Academic Museums and Galleries’ best standards and practices in caring for these works.

After July 1, 2026, faculty may make an appointment for a collection visit by emailing Laura-Caroline de Lara at artcollection@depaul.edu. Class engagements can be tailored to specific class needs and may be conducted in-person or online with the digital version of the collection. DePaul will also maintain its outgoing loan program for the temporary exhibition at other institutions.

For those who may not be familiar with the collection, DePaul has been collecting fine art since its founding in 1898. The university owns more than 4,000 art objects and works, including those from Rembrandt and Andy Warhol to Chicago’s own modern and contemporary artists such as Roger Brown, Dawoud Bey, and Edra Soto.

The permanent art collection reflects our mission, with a wide breadth of artistic voices and array of conceptual themes addressing social and environmental challenges and beyond. The art collection spans disciplines while broadening the historical narrative to include underrepresented artists and groups.

I hope that you will join the faculty who access this collection to enrich your classes and our students’ learning experience.

Sincerely,

Salma Ghanem

Provost
