Dear Faculty, Staff and Students,
As the university begins the fall term, Public Safety reminds the community of several university policies and procedures designed to keep our campuses safe.
DPU Alert
DPU Alert notifies the DePaul community of an emergency on or around campus via text, voice call and email. Verify your contact information in Campus Connect to receive DPU alerts.
In an active threat situation, DPU Alert is used to communicate which campus is affected and directs you to take action — such as getting to a secure location.
Act of violence
Public Safety recommends the Run, Hide, Fight approach when violence occurs on campus.
All faculty members are strongly encouraged to practice using door barricades in the classrooms where they teach. Knowing how to use these devices before an emergency is critical in keeping everyone safe.
In an active shooter situation:- Call 911 first.
- Then call DePaul Public Safety:
- Loop campus: 312-362-8400
- Lincoln Park campus: 773-325-7777
Fire alarm
In the event of a fire, you will hear a loud siren and see activated strobe lights. Immediate evacuation is required when a fire alarm sounds.
Note: A loud siren inside buildings indicates the presence of fire or smoke and is not used for any other emergencies.
