Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,
At DePaul, we are striving to support academic success and wellbeing by offering affordable health care coverage to all undergraduate and graduate students beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year. In conjunction with this new coverage, all degree-seeking students will be required to have active health insurance. Students will be automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan, unless they opt out and provide proof of active coverage.
I would like to share important dates to assist students and their families with making decisions about their health care coverage.
Last month, I shared that UnitedHealthcare will offer a preferred provider option (PPO) plan for DePaul students. The coverage period of this plan is September 1, 2024 through August 31, 2025, for all undergraduate and graduate students. (Coverage for law students runs August 20, 2024 through August 19, 2025.)
Students who have other coverage (for example through their parent or guardian’s insurance) and do not wish to be covered by the UnitedHealthcare plan will be able to opt out during the waiver period. They must provide proof of active, adequate insurance coverage at that time. The waiver period to opt out of DePaul’s plan begins May 15, 2024, and runs through September 20, 2024.
The quarterly fee for DePaul’s plan will be assessed on each quarter’s tuition bill. If students opt out and secure a waiver by the end of June 2024, it will not appear on their August tuition bill. If students opt out and secure a waiver before September 20, the fee will be removed.
This spring a dedicated website for student health insurance will be launched. This site is where students and their families can access details about the UnitedHealthcare plan and secure information about health insurance plans that qualify for a waiver.
Thank you,
