Online Presentation: Helping Students Navigate Financial Aid Changes

Dear Faculty and Staff,

As spring quarter progresses, we want to provide an update about how DePaul is supporting students and families as they navigate upcoming changes to federal student aid. Earlier this year, we shared resources and background with you about new federal loan limits for students and parents, which will go into effect July 1, 2026.

The upcoming May Brown Bag presentation with the Office of Financial Aid and the Office of Institutional Research and Market Analytics (IRMA) will discuss these changes driven by the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBBA) Act. All faculty and staff are welcome to register for one of these online sessions:
Presenting will be Karen LeVeque-Szawara, assistant vice president in Financial Aid, and Coleen Dickman, senior research associate in IRMA. Bring your questions, as there will be time for Q&A.

DePaul is actively communicating with students and their families to help them understand these changes. So far this calendar year, our team in the Office of Financial Aid has been:
  • Meeting with incoming first-year and transfer students and their parents during on-campus and online events;
  • Offering webinars for specific groups, including Theatre School students;
  • Sharing information with Admissions counselors and academic advisors about how loan limits should best be communicated with students and their families.
  • Information shared in the Parent Newsletters
  • Maintaining an FAQ page about the changes and how they affect current and new students.
If your unit or department would like more information about these changes and how they affect your students, please contact Karen LeVeque-Szawara. We hope to see you at one of the upcoming Brown Bag sessions.

Sincerely,

Karen LeVeque-Szawara
