Significant Loop road closures to begin next week

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,

As we move into the summer and large-scale events pick up around the city, we would like to remind you of significant upcoming road closures which will begin to go into effect next Thursday, June 27 that are related to the NASCAR Chicago Street Race on July 6-7.

Although university operations will continue during these times, community members traveling to the Loop Campus should be aware of these closures.

Thursday, June 27
  • Beginning at 7 p.m. – Curb lane closure of Columbus Drive between Jackson Drive and Roosevelt Road
  • Beginning at 7 p.m. – Closure of Jackson Drive between Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive
Friday, June 28
  • Beginning at 8 a.m. – Closure of Balbo Drive from Columbus Drive to DuSable Lake Shore Drive (intersection will remain open)
  • Beginning at 7 p.m. – Full closure of Balbo Drive from Michigan Avenue to Columbus Drive
Saturday, June 29
  • Beginning at 7 p.m. – Southbound lane closure on Columbus Drive from Balbo Drive to Roosevelt Road
For a complete list of closures, see this announcement from the Office of Emergency Management and Communications.

Significant traffic delays are expected, and we ask that faculty, staff, and students consider remote meetings or relocation to the Lincoln Park Campus when possible. If travel to the Loop Campus is necessary, public transportation is recommended.

For additional updates on the NASCAR street race, visit the OEMC website or download their app

We thank you for your flexibility during this time and wish you all a wonderful summer.
