Loop road closures to begin next week

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students, 

As a follow-up to last week’s message about Chicago summer events, we would like to provide more information about upcoming road closures near the Loop Campus related to the NASCAR Chicago Street Race on July 6-7. 

Beginning June 10, the City of Chicago will implement limited road closures around Grant Park in preparation for the street race. Ida B. Wells Drive will close from Michigan Avenue to Columbus Drive starting at 12:01 a.m. on June 10 to allow for construction of the event’s main viewing areas. In addition, limited parking restrictions will be put in place along southbound Columbus Drive between Jackson and Balbo.

These measures will remain in place into July, with significant closures beginning Thursday, June 27. For more information about expected road closures, see this announcement from the Chicago Office of Emergency Management. 

While the university will maintain operations during these times, DePaul community members traveling to the Loop Campus are encouraged to plan accordingly. Public transportation is recommended to avoid traffic delays, and relocation to the Lincoln Park Campus or remote offerings are encouraged when possible.
