Orientation and move-in date changes week of Aug. 19

Dear Faculty and Staff:

We hope you are staying cool and enjoying your first weeks of summer.

We are writing today to share an update with you about university operations and events during the Democratic National Convention the week of Monday, Aug. 19 –Thursday, Aug. 22. DePaul’s first-year orientation sessions planned for this week will be shortened and moved to the weekend and move-in for these students will now be Friday, Aug. 23.

The changes are necessary to ensure new students and families, particularly those from out-of-state, can find lodging and reach campus smoothly. The university has been advised by our hospitality and city partners of an acute shortage of affordable hotels and high traffic conditions expected during the DNC.

We appreciate the flexibility and collaboration of all those across the university who ensure the best possible welcome to our new students.

While we are adapting these new student-facing events, most other university operations will continue during this time and the university still encourages the community to move planned events, meetings and classes from the Loop to Lincoln Park during the DNC and other events, including the NASCAR race and Lollapalooza

Many thanks,
