Last week, on Monday, Sept. 25, DePaul announced a number of changes to enhance campus safety for our university community. These necessary changes are in response to recent incidents on our Lincoln Park and Loop campuses and represent the feedback provided at the Safety Summit held on Sept. 14 and last spring’s Safety Town Hall, hosted by the Student Government Association.
Today, I will share what you can expect when it comes to building access and DePaul IDs.
Beginning today, Monday, Oct. 2, we will implement the following safety processes:
First,
everyone will be required to carry their DePaul ID at all times on the Lincoln Park and Loop campuses (the ID can be on your phone or an actual card).
Second, please be aware that a Public Safety officer may request to see a DePaul ID at any time. We remain committed to building an inclusive community and sense of belonging at DePaul. All our Public Safety officers will be required to complete sensitivity training to mitigate the likelihood of racial or ethnic profiling.
Beginning Wednesday, Oct. 4, please note the following access and entry changes at DePaul Center in the Loop Campus, during all center operating hours:
- A DePaul ID, or registration as a guest, will be required to access university floors above the lobby.
- When you enter DePaul Center, please have your ID ready to show at the designated stations.
- Allow extra time to arrive at your DePaul Center destination. We know your time is valuable, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation.
Also effective Wednesday, Oct. 4, a DePaul ID or a government-issued ID will be required to enter The Richardson Library on the Lincoln Park Campus.
As an urban, Catholic and Vincentian institution of higher education, DePaul strives to create and maintain a dynamic atmosphere that is diverse, safe and secure. Keeping safety top of mind means we must
continually reflect on the changing safety environment within and around our university community.
Additional safety measures are being explored, and we will keep you
