Everyone has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Some have been impacted with direct loss—such as the death of a loved one or the loss of a job. However, even those not impacted with direct loss have experienced loss of social connections; attachment to places; and the upheaval of work, healthcare, educational and economic systems. We have all experienced a loss in our ability to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe and a loss of control over many aspects of our lives. Grief is a natural process that most people cope with over time. This brief workshop addresses strategies from the treatment of grief and trauma and simple tools that everyone can use to increase coping and resilience.Arieahn Matamonasa Bennett, PhD, is an associate professor with DePaul's School of Continuing and Professional Studies. A clinical psychologist, her research interests include cultural diversity issues and the prevention of violence. Before the event, there will be an information session about the FOP BA degree completion cohort program available through the partnership between DePaul University and the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 7.
