Faculty Composition Study Work Group: Plans for the 2023-24 school year

I am writing to provide you with a brief update on the progress of the Faculty Composition Study Work Group. The expertise and dedication of all our faculty are central to DePaul's academic mission, and understanding the optimal composition of our faculty is crucial for our institutional strategy and future planning. Convened by Academic Affairs, the work group includes tenure-line, term-line, and adjunct faculty appointed by Faculty Council.

Membership:

  • Jasmine Ahmad (Academic Affairs; Institutional Research & Market Analytics)
  • Christine Binder (The Theatre School; Faculty Council Committee on Contingent Faculty)
  • Salma Ghanem (Academic Affairs)
  • Daniel Hayes (College of Science and Health; Adjunct Faculty Advisory Committee)
  • Scott Hibbard (College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences; Faculty Council Status of the Faculty Committee)
  • Andrea Kayne (College of Education; Faculty Council Status of the Faculty Committee)
  • Jacqueline Kuehl (Driehaus College of Business)
  • Alyssa Kupka (Academic Affairs)
  • Lucy Rinehart (Academic Affairs)
  • Liz Sanders (Academic Affairs; Institutional Research & Market Analytics)

This work group is charged with conducting a peer-benchmarked study of our faculty's composition by category (tenure-line, term-line, and adjunct) in the context of the vital and many roles faculty serve in the design, delivery, and review of our academic programs and the support of our students.

The group held two organizational meetings last Spring quarter and has held monthly working meetings during Fall quarter to examine internal data from DePaul and benchmark this data against our peer institutions. The group will next consider DePaul’s benchmarked faculty composition data, by disciplinary area, in the context of faculty roles and responsibilities as they are defined and performed across the university. The study’s findings, anticipated by the end of the year, are intended to direct the recognition and support of all faculty in their work at DePaul, as well as inform future faculty hiring and scheduling plans.
