Among the many traditions at DePaul, we are close to celebrating a September tradition created around the Feast of St. Vincent de Paul: St. Vincent de Paul Heritage Week.
On September 24 – 29th we will celebrate the life and the works of Vincent de Paul and the inspiration provided by St. Vincent’s commitment to a new world in which socio-economic development and progress happens without compromising the dignity, the rights, or the identities of any individual or community, especially those on the margins. As an educational institution founded in the Vincentian spirit, we cannot endorse any progress in which the dignity of the human person and our planet is harmed.
Probably the most important challenge that we face today as members of the global Vincentian movement is to find, in the signs of the times, pathways for us to reinterpret the Vincentian Charism in light of today’s reality. Our Charism was born in the heart of our patron, from whom we get not just our institutional name but also our identity, our mission, and the ways in which we see the world. Click this link from Vinformation to watch a short video or read about the life of St. Vincent de Paul. You might find it useful for reflection over the next days until his feast day on the 27th.
With this message I want to invite all of you to participate in events that the Division of Mission and Ministry has put together to celebrate St. Vincent's legacy. These include programs on both campuses, masses, the Vinny Fest outdoor celebrations with more than 50 DePaul partners, a Wednesday loop luncheon to reflect on issues of migration in Chicago, and our famous Prayer Breakfast on Friday. Also, be on the lookout for a message on St. Vincent’s feast day in which President Manuel will connect St. Vincent with the Designing DePaul process and the inauguration of units’ strategic planning.
Please join us! A complete list of programs and RSVP links can be found here.
