The Democratic National Convention is in two weeks, Aug. 19-22

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students,

We hope you are enjoying your summer and have found some time to recharge before we launch a new academic year.

As we shared in a May message, the Democratic National Convention will take place Monday, Aug. 19 through Thursday, Aug. 22 in Chicago. Various events and delegate meetings leading up to the convention will happen at McCormick Place with the convention held on Aug. 22 at the United Center. You can see the security perimeter, including road and pedestrian restrictions around the event sites, here.

While official DNC activities are not in the Loop, delegate accommodations and satellite events will be scattered throughout the city. This activity could introduce additional street and sidewalk closures, parking restrictions and increased congestion on public transportation.

As with other events that affect the Loop campus, we encourage you to be flexible during this time and consider temporary, flexible work accommodations. If in-person meetings must be held, hold them in Lincoln Park if possible.

Finally, if you come to the Loop during the DNC, strongly consider public transportation, but note that buses and trains will be more congested, and buses are subject to the traffic that comes with street closures. If you must drive, be aware of street closures, parking restrictions and increased traffic. Whether you drive or use public transit, build in more time for your commute

Sincerely,

Rich Wiltse
