DePaul University celebrated its 124th commencement ceremony with graduates joining more than 206,000 living DePaul alumni — who, as life-long learners, are making a difference in their communities by doing good, and doing it well!

The weekend's festivities kicked off on Friday, June 9, with Baccalaureate mass held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Graduates and their guests gathered in thanksgiving and were treated to a service filled with beautiful music and prayer.

Six ceremonies were held at Wintrust Arena Saturday, June 10, and Sunday, June, 11. The graduations were filled with excitement, gratitude, inspiration and happy faces.

In addition to speeches from DePaul President Robert L. Manuel, Provost Salma Ghanem, each ceremony featured a student speaker who is a campus, community and academic leader. At the Jarvis College of Computing and Digital Media and The Theater School combined ceremony, student speaker Keslie Carrión emphasized treating others with kindness. “I have learned the only thing I can control is how I decide to treat others."

Champions of social justice, top business and law executives, and film and theatre legends spoke to the new graduates. “People can best serve the world or humanity by showing up as their unique and authentic self." said guest speaker Dori McWhorter, president/CEO of YMCA of Metro Chicago who spoke at the College of Liberal Arts & Social /sciences & School of Continuing and Professional Studies combined ceremony.

Several dignitaries received honorary degrees for outstanding or lifetime achievement in their fields, include Jahmal Cole, founder of My Block, My Hood, My City who also served as the commencement speaker at the College of Communication and College of Education combined ceremony. Cole shared, “If you do what you love and you're passionate about it, people are gonna feel that and support you in it."

Congratulations, Class of 2023! Take time to enjoy this accomplishment as you prepare to go forth and change the world as alumni of DePaul University.
