The university community bid a bittersweet farewell to dozens of colleagues who are taking leave of DePaul at the end of the month to begin a new chapter. The Division of Mission and Ministry hosted a reception on Thursday, June 8, at Cortelyou Commons to recognize and honor fellow employees who have decided to leave the university for retirement, voluntary separation incentive program or other reasons.
Faculty and staff were invited to the “In Gratitude for your Service” reception to share their appreciation and support to the many hardworking and dedicated community members who have left an indelible mark on DePaul University.
The gathering provided staff and faculty a space and time to express thanks for the many years of service and significant contributions these colleagues have made to DePaul.
Emotions at the event spanned the spectrum—sadness, joy, gratefulness, laughter and hope—and were expressed through tears, hugs, laughs, smiles and heartfelt well-wishes.
Mission and Ministry staff presented a Shared Coin with each guest of honor for their commitment to the Vincentian mission through their decades of service. The Shared Coin is modeled after St. Vincent de Paul's metaphor of the scarred coin, which represented the individuals he served, their inherent dignity and the investment he made into honoring and uplifting that dignity.
As St. Vincent de Paul said, “What a blessing to be a member of a Community because each individual shares in the good that is done by all!”
To those who are taking leave of DePaul at the end of the academic year: We thank you for your service and for all you have done for our students and colleagues. You may be leaving campus, but you will always be part of the DePaul family.
