This month, NASPA's Center for First-Generation Student Success recognized DePaul as a First-gen Forward Institution for its commitment to first-generation students. With this designation, the university joins the organization’s 2020-21 cohort.

Margaret Storey named Illinois Mother of the Year

In recognition of her work in the community and at home, Margaret Storey was named the 2020 Illinois Mother of the Year, becoming the 70th woman in Illinois history to receive the honor. She is now on the ballot for National Mother of the Year, which will be announced later this spring.

First Confirmed Case of COVID-19 at DePaul University

On March 17, DePaul received notification from a faculty member who works in 1150 W. Fullerton Ave. that they tested positive for COVID-19. For precautions and safety of the community, the building at 1150 W. Fullerton Ave. closed on March 18 to allow for cleaning. The faculty member is self-quarantining off campus, in accordance with Chicago Department of Public Health and CDC guidance.

Your gift to the Student Emergency Assistance Fund provides funds for travel expenses, meals, technology needs and other necessities that will help students who are facing financial hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic as they continue their coursework. Laila Farah to help design National Pulse Memorial and museum

Laila Farah, an associate professor in Women’s and Gender Studies, is part of a group selected to design a memorial and museum meant to honor and preserve the legacy of 49 killed and all those affected by the June 12, 2016, shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

In memorium: Jeremy "Jerry" Mulderig

Jeremy P. "Jerry" Mulderig, a DePaul professor for more than 25 years and former chair of DePaul's Department of English, died peacefully on March 7 from complications related to cancer. He was 69.
