Meet Joel Gonzalez: Decorated student veteran paving a path to college success

​While some students attend college right after high school, there are others who take a different path. Joel Gonzalez, an undergraduate student pursuing a major in business administration, decided to join the military before attending college. After eight years of success in the military, Gonzalez used his experience to apply and get accepted into DePaul University.

Accounting students provide tax assistance to low-income families

​​DePaul's accounting students volunteer their time each year from January to April to assist low-income families with tax returns through Chicago-based organization Ladder Up and its tax assistance program. This year the federal income tax deadline was extended to May 17 and some consultations were conducted remotely, but DePaul students were still there to provide support.

For the first time, students will be able to opt into the U-Pass program this summer. Students must be enrolled in at least one course and complete the opt-in form no later than July 20.

Women’s basketball to move all home games to Wintrust Arena

DePaul ​Athletics announced this week the women's basketball program will permanently move home games to Wintrust Arena beginning with the 2021-22 season. The Blue Demons played every home game this season at the facility after splitting the home schedule between Wintrust Arena and McGrath-Phillips Arena.

Online community engagement enhances service learning

In spring 20​20, the Steans Center launched Online Community Engagement, a program faculty employ to encourage dialogue on select topics relevant to curriculum, communities and students. Within a matter of weeks, OCE provided self-directed modules including reading materials and videos for students focused on issues such as mental health, immigration, community organizing, police accountability, and gentrification.

Spring 2021 census and fall outlook

According to National Student Clearinghouse, enrollment across all institution types fell 2.9% this spring compared to last year. However, DePaul continues to perform better than the average, with a 2.7% decline compared to last spring. Overall, DePaul enrolled 19,008 students, 97.0% of the projected goal of 19,597 students.
