The recent shooting in the nearby suburb of Highland Park on July 4 echoes the hurt of other recent mass shootings, and also struck home in a particular way with the loss of DePaul alumni, Kevin and Irina McCarthy, as shared with the university community last week.

Scene At DePaul
Summer rocket science
Five physics, astrophysics and actuarial science students travelled to Urbana, Ill., this month to launch a Raspberry Pi flight computer they built in a DePaul lab. The team launched the computer on a single-stage rocket to collect atmospheric and flight data, and compare them with computer simulations. The students are part of the Rising STEM Scholars Program, which is funded by DePaul's Academic Growth and Innovation Fund and grants from the Illinois Space Grant Consortium and the Department of Defense.
