Dabbling in DNA sequence analysis
Last month, the Jarvis College of Computing and Digital Media wrapped its inaugural Bioinformatics Camp. Led by School of Computing faculty Thiru Ramaraj and John Rogers, with the help of SoC '22 graduate DeAngelo Wilson, the camp provided a free opportunity for motivated public high school students to learn about DNA sequence analysis. This cutting-edge field is rarely taught in high school or even at the undergraduate level. Participants were exposed to DNA/RNA/protein sequence data and performing analysis using online tools. The program aims to open doors to relevant undergrad programs toward careers in biotechnology and the pharmaceutical industry. (Image courtesy of Elly Kafritsas-Wessels)
