Honoring students on National First-Generation College Celebration Day
DePaul kicked off Inauguration week with a Nov. 8 breakfast in honor of National First-Generation College Celebration Day. About one third of DePaul students are the first in their family to graduate from college. First-gen student Julianna De Leon (seated, center) spoke at the event and thanked her family for their support. She credits scholarships and a support system of DePaul faculty and staff for helping her achieve her college goals. "You all are why I call DePaul my second home," she says. De Leon plans to graduate this spring with a bachelor's degree in applied diplomacy. (DePaul University/Tom Vangel)
