Black History Month

Black history is all our history. It’s impossible to disentangle Black history from white people, especially the history of the United States, as this nation owes its prosperity to the seizing of resources from Native Americans who dwelled here, and on the backs of enslaved people that allowed colonizers to flourish.

In this month set aside specifically to honor Black history, we have added information about a few of our own local contributors to the Midwest's rich Black history here on this web page. Staff Council encourages everyone to use Black History Month to recognize and celebrate Black art, music, culture, food, institutions, leadership, and joy, while also continuing to value and protect Black lives and fight the structures and systems that threaten them.  See our full Black History Month Statement and this list of DePaul events for Black History Month 2022 for more ways to get involved.

To host a cultural event and have the costs covered by the Office of Institutional Diversity & Equity, view funding resources at the Office of Institutional Diversity and Equity.  Completing this form will have your event considered for the President's Signature Series, MLK Celebration Awards, General Diversity Programming, or Student Diversity Programming.  Indicate the initiative to which you are applying in the "Event Purpose" section of your proposal.
