DePaul community members eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine under the state's expanded phase 1b will soon have an option for receiving the vaccine in Chicago at a new federal vaccination site.
While the state recently expanded vaccine access to people ages 16-64 with certain medical conditions, Chicago hasn't had enough supply of the vaccine to do the same. Beginning March 9, a vaccine site will open at the United Center to serve Illinois residents, including those in Chicago, who meet the state's criteria for the expanded phase 1b.
Details:
- You must have an appointment to receive a vaccination at the United Center site (1901 W. Madison St.).
- The first appointments at the United Center will be prioritized for seniors. Any remaining appointments will go to Illinois residents who are eligible under state guidelines.
Seniors 65 and older will have exclusive registration access for the United Center site starting Thursday, March 4 at 8:30 a.m. on zocdoc.com/vaccine. General registration for those who are eligible for expanded phase 1b will open Sunday, March 7 at 4 p.m. If you cannot access the Zocdoc website, call 312-746-4835. This hotline is open Monday – Saturday 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. On Thursday, March 4 the hotline will open at 8:30 a.m.

The United Center site will be able to administer up to 6,000 doses per day in Chicago. This is additional vaccine and not taken out of the city's allotment.
Under the state's vaccine distribution plan, phase 1b includes seniors and frontline essential workers. As of Feb. 25, the state expanded phase 1b to include people ages 16-64 with the following health conditions:
- Obesity
- Diabetes
- Pulmonary diseases
- Smoking
- Heart conditions
- Chronic kidney disease
- Cancer
- Solid organ transplant
- Sickle cell disease
- Pregnancy
- Persons with a disability

Keep in mind that Chicago residents are eligible for the vaccine under the state's expanded phase 1b only via appointments at the United Center's vaccination site. All other vaccination sites in the city are operating under the city's vaccination distribution plan. The city's vaccine distribution phases are outlined on the city's website.
Under the city's current plans, university faculty and staff will be included in phase 1c, which the city estimates will begin at the end of March. The city's plans are subject to change, depending on the availability of vaccine supply.
