A number of events for adjunct faculty members are scheduled or planned for the 2017-18 academic year.
Eligible adjunct faculty members in six colleges and schools-College of Business, College of Computing and Digital Media, College of Law, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, College of Science and Health, and The Theatre School-will vote soon to elect colleagues to serve on the adjunct
Workplace Environment Committee. The School for New Learning, College of Education, College of Communication, and School of Music will not have elections this year because their members were elected to two-year terms last fall.
Self-nominations are being accepted from Sept. 8 through Sept.18, and the online election will take place from Sept. 25 through Oct. 5. Adjunct faculty members in each of the six colleges and schools holding elections will receive nomination and election instructions from their deans.
The WEC's charge is to hear, report and suggest resolutions for workplace issues affecting the lives of adjunct faculty members across the university, except for issues of academic policy and governance, which fall under the purview of Faculty Council and its Committee on Contingent Faculty. The advisory body, which includes 14 adjunct faculty members, was created last fall.
A resource fair for adjunct faculty will be held in early November. Adjunct faculty members will have an opportunity to learn more about benefits and teaching and professional development resources available to them.
Adjunct faculty networking events - one in the Loop and one in Lincoln Park - will take place during winter quarter, and the third annual Adjunct Faculty Appreciation Reception will occur near the end of the academic year.
Stay tuned for dates and details.
